In the tradition of political liberalism, fraternity is often understood as a moral value that goes beyond the ideal of justice. In contrast, Jochen Bojanowski argues for a new understanding: According to him, we are fraternal towards one another in the political context if we support a social cooperation framework in which mere differences in happiness cannot be converted into distributive advantages. Based on this idea, Bojanowski develops a theory of justice according to which fraternity is a constitutive part of justice.
