
The Department of Philosophy in the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign invites applications for a Postdoctoral Associate in Ethics and/or Philosophy of Artificial Intelligence.
This position is a one-year appointment; renewal of the position is possible and contingent on availability of funding, strong enrollments, and strong performance reviews.
Successful candidates will be expected to contribute to the work of the Illinois Forum on Human Flourishing in a Digital Age, which supports study of the possibilities for human flourishing in a world shaped by digital technology. Duties & Responsibilities
Preparing and presenting instructional content for three courses, one in the fall and two in the spring semester, all at the introductory level, including holding office hours, writing and grading examinations, and assigning grades; establishing an active and independent research program; and related service and public engagement activities in support of the Forum on Human Flourishing.
QUALIFICATIONS
Ph.D. in Philosophy, Computer Science, or a related field, evidence of research productivity and potential for teaching effectiveness.
SALARY AND APPOINTMENT INFORMATION
This is a full-time, 12-month appointment, non-tenure track position, with the possibility of extension to a second year subject to enrollments, funding, and positive performance evaluations.
Target start date is August 16, 2025. The minimum salary for this position is $62,000. Final salary offered will be determined by a thorough assessment of available market data, internal salary equity, candidate experience and qualifications, and budget constraints. This position is not eligible for sponsorship.
